Underdog Community Project
As the Medical Director of Underdog Community Project (UCP), I play a key role in providing free, comprehensive veterinary services to the pets of individuals experiencing homelessness or living in shelters and temporary housing throughout Los Angeles.
At Underdog Community Project, we believe no one should have to choose between keeping a roof over their head and keeping their beloved pet healthy. As Medical Director, I help oversee a team of incredible volunteer veterinarians and technicians who provide free veterinary care for the pets of unhoused and low-income individuals in Los Angeles.
Our services go far beyond vaccines and wellness checks—we also offer care for sick pets, treat chronic conditions, provide free spay and neuter surgeries, and even help pets access dental care to relieve painful disease. Every treatment, every exam, and every resource we provide is aimed at keeping pets healthy, comfortable, and with the people who love them most.
One of the moments I’m most proud of was hosting our very first Dental Day with Underdog Community Project, where we provided full dental cleanings, assessments, and necessary extractions for five senior dogs living with owners in shelter housing—at absolutely no cost. Dental disease can be painful and life-limiting, and being able to give these pets relief (alongside an incredible team of volunteers) was truly life-changing—for them and for us.
We’re not just providing veterinary care—we’re preserving the human-animal bond, one pet at a time.
Founded on the principles of mutual aid and volunteerism, UCP has been serving the community for over 3.5 years, ensuring that pet owners facing hardship have access to essential veterinary care. The organization offers a wide range of services, including:
✔️ Wellness & preventative care (vaccines, deworming, flea/tick prevention)
✔️ Spay/neuter programs to reduce pet overpopulation
✔️ Diagnostics & treatment funding for illnesses and injuries
✔️ Humane euthanasia services when needed
To date, UCP has helped over 1,500 pets and remains a consistent, compassionate resource for those in need. The organization is women-founded, volunteer-led, and committed to returning to communities for booster vaccines and ongoing care, ensuring pets receive long-term support.
